Community Plant Practice

  • Good Medicine Collective 231 York Street Portland, ME, 04102 United States (map)

Join Good Medicine Collective members Tessy Seward and Ginny Gill for a quarterly series designed to deepen our familiarity and relationship with local medicinal plants. Explore the identities and traditional uses of these plants while connecting with them in teas, tinctures and essential oils. Tessy and Ginny will guide movement, meditation and breathwork practices carefully chosen to complement the cylcle of the seasons and the energetics of each plant.

SUMMER Offering: Tuesday July 1st, 6-8:30 pm, ST JOHN’S WORT (Hypericum perforatum)

The cheerful yellow blooms of St. John’s Wort begin to open at the summer solstice, and they continue gracing us with their presence throughout July. These flowers seem to radiate the light and warmth of the sun itself. They flourish in hot, dry landscapes, and will stain your fingers red when squeezed thanks to hypericum, the medicinal compound that can help lift our spirits in the darker times of the year. In this summer session of Community Plant Practice, we will experience the plant in tincture and an infused herbal body oil.

An energizing yoga kriya led by Tessy will support us to connect with the sun’s energy and our own inner light, and we’ll gently expand that awareness with a conscious, connected breathwork session led by Ginny
